anyone here have pet insurance?

We've been considering getting pet insurance "just in case". Looking for any good recommendations on providers and what is a fair price to expect?

Thanks!

RE: anyone here have pet insurance?

Hey guys,

It's Deborah and Nancy, the parents of 'joe junior' who by the way is doing vey well. Did all the other puppies ( the runt girl and bob?) get good homes? Joey is sprouting a nose like pinnochio.

Deborah had two italian greyhounds when we got together. One had many health problems. The worst of which was she broke her legs 4 times in the span of 5 years. She couldn't insure the dog until a year had passed without incident. Finally she was able to insure the dog. The dog never broke it's legs again from that time forward! Weird.

Pet insurance only pays for catastrophic conditions like broken bones and major injuries/illness. For italian greyhounds, I think its a good investment. That being said, you must know that pet insurance companies challenge every detail of every bill and pay very little out unless it's a broken limb or some sort of major injury. Gamine, the dog to which we are referring had seizures and heart disease. She also had a bout of pancreatitus from eating a large bite of a fastfood hamburger - she spent two days in the hospital on I.V. and nearly died. It cost us $800.00 and the insurance paid about $80.00. They challenged all the tests the vet ran to determine what was wrong. It was a nightmare. We cancelled our policies and just keep a savings account for the dogs! The rest of our dogs, knock on wood, have been pretty healthy. It's the luck of the draw. Hope this helps.

Italian GreyHounds can be prone to some bone disorders like patellar luxation, legg parthes disease, hypothyroidism, cataract, leg fractures, liver disases etc. Yes if you could, always go for insurance.

If you don't have pet insurance, get it! It can be a life saver, imagine not being able to help your screaming IG's broken leg...
