whippets vs italian greyhounds.

I have always wanted an Italian greyhound because they're so freaking cute. my g/f suggested i get a whippet instead because they're bigger and heartier than ig's and they look just like them. she works at a local pet store/vet and she see's italian greyhounds come in frequently with broken legs just from jumping off of furnature. it makes sense. i'm not doubting her.
my question is is a whippet that much heartier? is a whippet a dog you can rough-house with. can they jump from heights such as the tailgate of a truck or to and from the seat of a truck? i understand they're one of the fastest dogs. my favorite thing is to play fetch with my brothers brittany with a tennis ball and a tennis racquet. is this something i could do with a whippet without fear of the dog getting injured from over running itself? i can see an italian greyhound tripping and breaking something at a full speed run.

RE: whippets vs italian greyhounds.

I've heard of Italian Greyhounds falling off of things, we we lucked out with our guy. We've had him six months, no broken bones. He's even run head first into fences, (wood and CONCRETE) benches and people and is still physically and mentally healthy. Whips are heartier than IGs in general, since (I've heard from Dogs 101) Whips were bred with terriers. They do have very similar personality quirks that all sight hounds have. Just keep in mind the Whip is a bigger dog than the IG.

This whippet can jump from their height because they have a strong muscle. I recently bought my whippets, and I enjoy playing with them.

RE: whippets vs italian greyhounds.

My wife and I just purchased 2 Iggys and they're adorable. Did considerable research and our pups are doing very well.

The only thing I know regarding Whippets is that they are a rare breed. I wouldn't say extremely rare, but locating a breeder is quite difficult. Another thing to consider is due to Whipps being rare, their typical purchasing price for a pup is over 1,000 dollars.

We purchased both of our iggys for 800 total from a reputable breeder.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. . Hope my info helps a bit.
